A poignant sound and visual work by Rory Friers
Belfast based composer Rory Friers looks at coping and absence with scored work, All Together; All Alone. This large scale multimedia installation and audio piece was commissioned by the NI Science Festival and draws on Rorys work as a film composer as well as his recent, highly acclaimed AV project, Jettison, with his band And So I Watch You From Afar. All Together; All Alone was composed for string ensemble and guitar. Its visual element was created using handheld footage of a deserted Belfast collected during the first days of the 2020 lockdown and a scrap book of intimate field recordings from the subsequent two years. Rory scored the musical accompaniment that wove through these elements and reflected the thoughts its stirred.
