A ‘Wee’ Bit Of Science (Understanding why ‘wee’ (urine) is so important, and the analysis of ‘wee’ in diagnosing diseases)
Event Details

Have you ever given a ‘wee’ (urine) sample to your doctor? If so you may not be aware that your ‘wee’ will have been sent to a pathology laboratory to be analysed by a Biomedical Scientist. Biomedical Science is at the heart of healthcare and everyone will use the services of Biomedical Scientists more than once during their life. Why is ‘wee’ so important? How can we test your ‘wee’ to diagnose diseases? With this workshop Dr Valerie Hinch from Ulster University will teach you about the importance of ‘wee’ and where it is produced in the kidney. You will get to see the amazing work that Biomedical Scientists and Pathologists do in hospital laboratories, investigating kidney diseases. You will even be provided with the opportunity to participate in kidney dissection, a process used to help diagnose diseases such as diabetes and cancer.
